Clydebank woman told she could be waiting until next Spring for new kitchen

A KILBOWIE woman says she is “raging” after she was told she could be waiting until next Spring for her kitchen to be replaced.

Lisa Mooney claims she first began having issues with her kitchen around a year ago shortly after she moved into her council-owned home in George Crescent.

The 28-year-old told the Post that if she uses her sink the water doesn't drain away which means she has to use a bucket/basin to do this herself.

Lisa said that if the bucket overflows the water goes everywhere and that due to the dampness, her cupboard is rotting away (Image: Newsquest staff)

Lisa said: “After I moved here I was promised a brand new kitchen and that still hasn’t happened.

"They [West Dunbartonshire Council] said they’d request one for me but I could be waiting years for it.

“There’s no pipe to get rid of the water from the sink so if I do the dishes I’ve got to put a bucket or whatever I have underneath the sink.

“If it overflows it just goes everywhere. The cupboard is now covered in mould and is rotting away. I have reported it so many times.

“I have two children, one of whom has additional support needs, and I’ve told them [WDC] that this kitchen isn’t suitable for us.

“It’s a joke now.”

On Friday (August 25), a housing officer from WDC visited Lisa’s home to carry out an inspection of the property.

It is understood that the mother-of-two was told her kitchen would be replaced by the end of March next year.

However, Lisa said the news came as little comfort.

She added: “I’m raging. It’s got to the point now where I’ve phoned up another housing association because I can’t wait until March.

“I get so embarrassed when folk visit because you can smell the mould. This has caused me nothing but stress.

“It’s like I’ve got no choice. We can’t stay here with the kitchen like that.”

A WDC spokesperson confirmed that Lisa’s kitchen is scheduled to be replaced by the end of next March and that this and any other repair work has been recommended to be expedited.

A statement reads: “We are sorry to hear this tenant is unhappy. An inspection of her property has been undertaken and though the kitchen was programmed to be replaced by the end of March 2024, we have recommended that this and any other required repairs be expedited.

“We will continue to liaise directly with the tenant to confirm specific timescales, and offer our full support until this is complete.”
